The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) accuses former Prime Minister Imran Khan of misusing his protective bail to avoid court hearings. This is in relation to a prohibited funding case against his political party, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI).
Last October, the state filed the case through the Corporate Banking Circle of the FIA in Islamabad. It alleges that Khan and other opposition party leaders received prohibited funding for their party.
Khan received interim bail after being shot during an assassination attempt at a rally in November. However, the FIA claims he has been misusing this concession and not appearing before the honorable court. They also allege that he is not cooperating with the legal process.
The FIA has filed a petition with the banking court, requesting that a medical board be formed to examine Khan. They have raised concerns about the credibility of his medical certificate. The medical report presented by Khan was issued by a hospital that he owns, according to the agency.
The FIA believes that the accused should be examined by a board of expert doctors on the subject from PIMS or Polyclinic. They have requested that the board submit a report regarding the physical health or mobility of Khan in light of his claimed leg injuries. This, they believe, is in the best interest of justice.
It remains to be seen what the next steps will be in this ongoing case. However, this latest development is significant and could have far-reaching implications for Imran Khan and his party.
